How do I replace the battery in the iPod mini models?
If it is out of warranty, Apple will replace the battery in your iPod mini for a cost of US$59 plus US$6.95 shipping.
A variety of third-party services also are available, including ones from site sponsors Other World Computing and Mission Repair. These companies offers battery replacement services for considerably less than Apple charges and sell "longer runtime than stock" batteries for self-installation as well.
Replacing the battery in an iPod mini is quite difficult, but it does not require soldering and is not an insurmountable challenge for the technically inclined.
For tech savvy individuals, iFixit has instructions for battery replacement and Other World Computing has a step-by-step video:
OWC has battery installation videos for other iPod models as well. From watching the video you should be able to determine whether or not you feel comfortable replacing the battery or would prefer to pay a professional to perform the upgrade.
