How can you fix an iPod with a cracked display? Is the display covered by Apple's warranty?
Apple provides a one year warranty for the iPod, but the company only is known to replace the iPod display if a factory defect causes it to become damaged during routine use under warranty coverage.
Even if your iPod is under warranty, Apple states that "if your iPod's LCD display is cracked due to accidental damage, do not send your iPod in for service. Coverage for this type of damage is excluded under Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod and AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod, and service is not available under the terms of Apple's Repair Terms and Conditions."
So if your iPod looks like this one, Apple definitely will not cover it under warranty:
If the iPod is accidentally damaged or out of warranty, Apple will replace the display for an amount that is generally not cost-effective, but third-parties, such as site sponsor Mission Repair, are available to replace the screen at much more affordable prices and a highly technical person can self-replace it as well. It isn't feasible to "fix" the existing cracked display, per se.
Mission Repair provides 24 hour display replacement for all iPod models by mail. Repairs are made by Certified Macintosh Technicians and the company offers "do-it-yourself" kits as well.
